One of the reasons I started on Substack was to foster connections and community that went beyond chats in my Instagram DMs and comments. A space where I could explore the questions I receive more deeply and share them more widely. That’s why, for paid subscribers, I offer access to one extra Q&A newsletter at the end of every month. It’s a chance for you to ask a specific question related to style, lifestyle or travel (pretty much anything!), which I’ll then explore in-depth.

This month, Lexi asked:

“I’m really curious about your approach to bags and accessories. They always add interest without distracting from the outfit. Any tips here would be great.”

It’s a great question and not something I explore all too often, possibly because my bags and accessories do tend to come secondary to the rest of my outfits. True to form, I normally keep things minimal, while opting for pieces that still have a strong design element so they don’t feel too ‘plain’.

I also go for practicality: can the bag I’m wearing fit my water bottle, my laptop (if I’m working), my hairbrush and all my other bits and bobs? Will the scarf I put on keep me warm without feeling like it’s weighing me down or getting in the way?

Below are the ways I choose my bags and accessories, and the pieces I wear a lot.
