Last week, I read this post by

Liza Belmonte
, who’d gathered different style writers to share their favourite pair of jeans. I shared it on Notes because hey, jeans are bloody tricky to buy. Every pair can have a completely different size, shape, fit and wash to the next which makes choosing a pair really difficult, especially if you’re buying online.

A reader responded to my Note with: “I’d love to see you style some jeans. I find myself loving the idea of jeans but always feel too scruffy or teenage when I actually wear them.”

So here we are, my (mini) guide to jeans. I say mini because jeans can flummox me too - and I wouldn’t say I’m an expert. On a day-to-day basis I’m more likely to wear a pair of cotton or linen barrel-leg or straight-leg trousers, or - as we’re now in autumn - a pair of corduroy trousers (I just bought an excellent pair from YMC in the END sale) or wide-leg wool pants. I personally find them more comfortable and easier to wear than denim (and maybe I just overdid the skinny jean way too much in the mid-00s) BUT there are two pairs of jeans that I own that get worn pretty regularly too.

The Black Tapered Leg Jean

Wearing: COS jeans (I took my usual size), OMHU wool vest*, Zara roll neck (old. Similar here), Zara boots (old. Similar here)
