8 Pieces Worth Adding to Basket in March
Second-hand Rejina Pyo sandals, the best pendant necklace on the high street, and ballet flats with a twist.
I feel as though I’ve written about spring coming in the introduction to all of my posts recently. And I’m not sorry to say I’m not stopping my spring-obsessed streak this week. The sun is (finally) shining as I write this, instantly putting me into warmer weather outfit mode.
This month, I’m thinking about the items of clothing that are missing from my wardrobe. Pieces that I can start wearing now but will continue to wear in summer and autumn, and that I can use to create loads of different outfit options. Some are variations of items I already own (and wear all the time), some are style staples that have been missing from my wardrobe for far too long (it turns out the perfect tank top does exist!), and some are second-hand finds that are so good, I can’t believe they haven’t been snapped up yet.
Universal Works Kyoto Work Jacket
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the makings of the perfect early spring jacket. And, well, add this one to the list. Universal Works’ ‘Kyoto’ jacket is made from a 100% cotton twill weave, a fabric that’s light enough for slightly warmer days and hardy enough to still protect you from the cold. It’s inspired by Japanese styling, with a wrap front, and front and chest pockets, and is designed for an oversized fit, which makes it a great layering piece. There’s also an excellent quilted navy version currently in the sale.
Raey Jersey Maxi Dress
With the recent news that the wonderful Matches is going into administration and no updates as yet on what will happen to the e-tailer, I’ve been returning to the in-house brand Raey - just in case this is the beginning of the end (although I really hope not).
Last summer, I bought a strappy slip dress from Raey that was so comfortable and easy to wear, that I wore it whenever I got the chance. So when I saw this long-sleeved version, I immediately added it to my ‘to buy’ list. Those long sleeves make it a lot friendlier for spring and mean I can wear it into autumn too. Like the strappy version, this dress is a great ‘foundational’ piece. It will work really well on its own, with a pair of flats or sandals but you could also add a few bangles to zhush it up, or layer with a light jacket (that Universal Works one above would go very nicely…).
