5 Ways to Wear Linen Trousers with Wool Jumpers
The casual 'in-between' outfits I reach for every week.
There are a few weeks (or let’s face it, months, in the UK) of the year when the temperature hits just the right spot to wear what might be my favourite combination of items: linen trousers and a wool jumper. It’s the time of year when the sun’s shining and it’s kind of warm but there’s enough of a lingering chill that you need something to cover bare arms and cosy into.
Linen and wool is a mix of light and heavy fabrics that sounds as though it would clash or confuse. But I’ve found it to be the perfect balance on those in-between days - or early mornings and late evenings outside when it’s feeling fresh.
My trick here is to go for lighter wool and looser fits so you don’t overheat - you’ll see a merino knit below, as well as lightweight cashmere, and relaxed silhouettes. I’ve chucked in a slightly chunkier knit too (hey, I like to contradict myself) but with some summer-friendly styling so it doesn’t feel like I’m still wearing my winter woollies.
Look 1
First up: these striped Toast trousers that I first shared in my South Africa outfits round-up, paired with a light merino crewneck jumper from Asket (this is from the men’s collection. I’m wearing a size S in a short length). I love the combination of the dark green jumper against the light green stripes in the trousers, with a break between the two created by the white T-shirt. These trousers have a drawstring waist and drop crotch so they’re incredibly comfortable to wear - I have a size S which sits low on my waist perfectly but I’d say size down if you’d like to wear them higher up. I’ve finished off the look with brown suede sandals to add another (neutral) colour to the outfit, and to stop the green from looking too matchy-matchy.
